NBA Week 1 Recap

The NBA season is a week old and it is the perfect time to take a look at what we have seen so far and how we can use that to our advantage in the upcoming weeks!

Perfect So Far

New Orleans/OKC Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Utah Jazz are unbeaten so far. This will not continue of course but the message here is don’t be overly surprised if you see each of these teams come playoff time. Even though nobody is expecting much from these three teams, that is a good thing in the NBA as they just might fly under the radar while building solid records. With the exception of Allen Iverson, these teams don’t boast a superstar of any great magnitude and that isn’t all that bad in the NBA as it tends to then be easier to sneak up on your opponent!

Best in the West at the bottom

Dallas, Denver and Phoenix are all sitting at the bottom of their respective divisions right now. Yes it is early and unlike the three previous teams listed above, these teams will likely have their places reversed by the time Santa comes down the chimney.

Nellie is Back

Don Nelson’s return to the NBA and Golden St. has gone a little unnoticed so far and that has to do mainly with the fact that it is the Warriors he is coaching. However, the big win in Dallas in Week 1 might garner some attention! The Warriors offense will certainly put points on the board as Jason Richardson and Baron Davis will be free to run and shoot at will. If a third scorer can be found Warriors fans will be back to playing their 80’s classics with visions of Run DMC in their heads!

There has to be a better way to spent $140 million.

The New York Knicks payroll leads the NBA at $140 million and “for what?” is the question that Knick fans are asking! Based on the early returns those fans will not be asking that question in their seats at the Garden as they will probably stop showing up after the first of the year! Head coach Isaiah Thomas might not have to show up then either as he very well might be the first coach of the year to get the ziggy.

This draft class won’t be talked about in 5 years

No rookie has come in and made a strong statement yet. Although there might be a few solid players in this group we won’t be talking about them in 5 years as we aren’t even talking about any of them now! This includes this year’s number one pick. In case you, like most people, forgot who it was…the name is Andrea Bargnani by Toronto. So far he is averaging…yawn…four points per game and three rebounds per game!

New Ball and the ‘talk’ stops!

With all the ‘talk’ going into the season of the new ball being used – the talk has pleasantly seemed to disappear now that the ‘real’ games are going. Now if only we could find a way for all the on court ‘talk’ to stop. It certainly looks like David Stern and Company are focused on putting a stop to the negative behavior on the court and for that we applaud!

We also applaud the start of another NBA season and with one week in the books take note of what you’ve seen. That will be an advantage to you in the coming weeks which will help your NBA season to be a profitable one!
