Quest for Perfection!

And then there were six! That’s the number of undefeated teams left in college football: Arizona State, Boston College, Hawaii, Kansas, Ohio State and South Florida will all try to avoid becoming the next to fall. Which of these six has the best chance at running the table? Let’s take a look.

Arizona State

With one loss Cal, Oregon, and USC not to mention UCLA gunning for them along with their knack for starting slow a perfect season is most likely out of reach for the Sun Devils.

Boston College

The Eagles are off to the best start since 1942 and have a legitimate Heisman candidate in quarterback Matt Ryan. If BC survives Virginia Tech on October 25^th they wrap up their season against Florida State, Maryland, Clemson and Miami (FL); all looking for signature wins this season.

Hawaii

Colt Brennan is for real, and the Warriors rack-up points at a 52.14 clip per game. The Warriors accomplishments lose a little shine when you realize their first seven opponents have a combined 10-32 record. With Fresno State, Boise State, and Washington as well as Nevada and New Mexico State on tap their chances of remaining undefeated are slim.

Kansas

The Jayhawks are one of the biggest surprises in this list. After six, four, seven and six wins over the last four seasons Kansas now finds themselves in an elite list; One of the last undefeated teams in the nation. With a trip to Texas for a matchup against A&M then a date with Missouri to wrap up the season not to mention Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State in between perfection will be out of reach.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes find themselves in familiar territory, undefeated and number one in the first BCS poll of the season. The difference this year is the parity in the Big Ten. With trips to Penn State and Michigan as well as home dates with Wisconsin and Illinois, Ohio State will not make it through the season without a loss.

South Florida

In 2004 and 2005 the Bulls had a combined 10 wins. In 2006 they amassed nine wins and now in 2007 they are a perfect 6-0, but their conference schedule has just begun. Rutgers, Louisville, Cincinnati, Louisville and Pittsburgh will all be gunning to knock off the new kid on the block. The pressure will be more than they can handle. The Bulls will have an outstanding season but perfection is not in the cards.

If you think the national title picture has been wild to this point just wait, it’s only going to get better! With 13 one loss teams including LSU, Oklahoma, USC and Cal waiting in the wings this is going to get good!
