The league schedule is loaded with division games at the end of the season to add some excitement. At this point of the season, it looks like a great strategy. The Pittsburgh Steelers went into Baltimore and won the game 13-10 to take first place in the AFC North.  Jacksonville took out the Tennessee Titans 17-6 to now lead the AFC South. The Raiders were a double digit underdog to the San Diego Chargers and won straight up to break the Charger’s 19-game winning streak in the month of December. The Kansas City Chiefs took care of Denver 10-6 for sole possession of first place in the AFC West. The Winner of the New York and New England game tonight will be sitting in first place of the AFC East.

The Giants took care of business whipping the Redskins 31-7 and are currently tied for first in the NFC East. The Bears took care of the Detroit Lions 24-20 to put up the third best record and lead the NFC North division. The Rams beat the Cardinals beat the 19-6 while the Seahawks blew out The Panthers 31-14. The Rams and the Seahawks are tied for first in the NFC West. The Atlanta Falcons beat the Buccaneers 28-24 to lead the NFC south.

With all the division games loaded on the back end of the schedule, the remaining regular season games will be very important from here on out. The NFL is showing true parity this season. There are arguments for numerous teams to be mentioned as Superbowl contenders going into the 14th week of the season. The couple teams that are not in position to make the playoffs are content and motivated enough to play the spoiler role against their hated division rivals.

The favorites late in the season are often double-digit favorites against apathetic teams. With so many teams still in the hunt for the playoffs and the division games, look for the betting lines to be posted more conservatively in the last fourth of the season.
