Great Lakes Sports - 8/7/2006 8:08 PM
Great Lakes Sports welcomes you to the 2006 college football season where we look forward to another winning year. We start the season off by giving you our top ten predictions. As always, good luck from Great Lakes Sports.

1. Ohio State:  The Buckeyes return eight on offense, and only two on defense.  We look for the offense to step up big as the starters this year had a lot of playing time last year, and should not skip a beat.  Ohio State could run the table with their high powered offense, and will need to win two key road games at ( Texas, and at Iowa).   Tressel and his troops will shine in 2006.

2. Florida:  The Gators return six on offense, six on defense, and will have a year to adapt to Urban Meyer's spread offense led by QB Chris Leak. We look for big things from the Gators vaulting themselves into the National Championship game.

3. Nebraska:  The Cornhuskers are my surprise team this year as they return eight on offense and seven on defense.  With the Big 12 being wide open with Texas starting a Freshman QB, Oklahoma kicked their starting QB off the team for violating NCAA
rules.  The Cornhuskers will be heard from this year as we look for Nebraska to possibly run the table if they can beat USC on the road.  We feel this could be a banner year for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

4. Louisville:  The Big East boast two teams that could find themselves in the top ten  at the end of the year in Louisville and West Virgina. Louisville is our fourth choice as the Cardinals return eight on offense and nine on defense including All-American candidate in Brian Brohm, with their two toughest games at home vs Miami of Florida and West Virgina.  We will give the edge to the Louisville Cardinals for number four in the country.

5. Notre Dame:  The Fighting Irish have one of the best coaches in the country in Charlie Weis, and now that they are recruiting top ten talent. The Irish return seven on offense and nine on defense including Heisman Candidate Brad Quinn.  We look for the Fighting Irish to crack the top five for the first time in years.

6. Auburn:  The Auburn Tigers return five on offense and six on defense but do not have the depth to win the SEC. They also have to face Alabama, LSU, Florida,  Georgia, and they could lose two of those four games. With their solid defense we look for Auburn to finish number six.

7. Oklahoma: Took a big blow with their hopes of a National Championship out the window when they kicked off starting QB Rhett Bomar for violating NCAA rules.  The Sooners return four offensive starters, but have a real solid defense returning seven players.  The Sooners  defense will keep them in games and we see the Sooners coming in at number seven.

8. Texas:  We see Texas coming in at number eight because of the uncertainty of starting a freshman QB this year plus a key match-up with the Ohio State Buckeyes.  The Longhorns return seven offense and seven on defense. We look for the Longhorns to lose two games and come in number eight.

9. Miami of Florida:  The Hurricanes return five on offense, six on defense, and have key games with Florida State, Louisville, and Virginia Tech. We see the Hurricanes winning the ACC this year and going to a BCS Bowl. They will be number nine this year because the strength of their schedule.

10. USC:  With The Trojans losing key players to the NFL, USC still are very well coached with Pete Carroll.  The Trojans return four players on offense and six on defense.  We look for the Trojans to come in at number ten with tough games vs Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, and Notre Dame.
