Rocky Atkinson's Race Day (Miami 11-19-06)

We head into the final weekend of Nascar Nextel Cup Racing this year. The final race is upon us and one driver will be crowned Nextel Cup Champion on Sunday. The Nextel Cup boys head down to Miami to race on the 1 ½ mile oval track. We do want to take this time to thank all of our readers for tuning in each and every week. Look for us again next year as we will make this an even better article with more insightful information on Nascar each and every week. The first race will be Daytona in February for the next season.

Jimmie Johnson remained the leader in the Nextel Cup Point standings and is 63 points ahead of 2nd place Matt Kenseth. Kevin Harvick moved up two spots to the 3rd position 90 points out of first. Denny Hamlin stayed in 4th place actually tied with Kevin Harvick 90 points behind the leader. Dale Earnhardt Jr. fell two spots back to 5th and is 115 points behind Johnson. Jeff Gordon stayed in the 6th spot and sits 167 points back, Jeff Burton stayed in the 7th spot and sits 225 points out of first and Mark Martin moved up one spot to 8th and sits 273 points out of first place. Kasey Kahne moved up one spot to 9th sitting 319 points behind the leader and rounding out the Top 10 going into our final race is Kyle Busch 359 points behind Johnson.

Greg Biffle has claimed the checkered flag in each of the past 2 races here in Miami. Biffle has two wins, two Top 5 and two Top 10 finishes in his 4 starts in Miami. Jeff Gordon has never won a race here but he is my favorite to win this one. Gordon has three Top 5 finishes and six Top 10 finishes in his 7 races at Miami. Mark Martin is another one to watch this weekend. Martin has an average finish of 11.6 in Miami. Martin has four Top 5 finishes and four Top 10 finishes in his 7 races here. Tony Stewart is another one to watch. Stewart has two wins, three Top 5 finishes and four Top 10 finishes in his 7 career races in Miami. Bobby Labonte has a victory here as well. Labonte has posted three Top 5 finishes and four Top 10 finishes in his 7 races here. Those are the five to look out for this weekend. Jimmie Johnson will probably try to play it safe as all he needs is a 12th place finish or better to win the Championship.
