TOM SCOTT'S ANGLE OF THE WEEK
The "experts" tell us that a football team improves the most between its first and second games of the season. If that were true, then a team playing its second game of the season should have an advantage over one playing its season opener. It doesn't work like that.
Those teams are under .500 since 1980 with the home teams and the underdogs at 50-50. Therefore, I went to the road favorites to see how they did and came up with these numbers. All road favorites who were playing their second game of the season against a foe playing its season opener were 18-32 to the spread. If that road favorite was laying less than 14 points, in other words, in a competitive game, the numbers dropped to 9-28 vs the number. Finally, if that road favorite was off a loss or off a win of ten or less points in his first game, the record plummets to 3-22. Therefore, I submit this angle with its accompanying play for this week.

PLAY AGAINST and road favorite of less than -14 who is off a loss or off a win of ten or less points and is playing its second game of the season against a foe playing its season opener.
RECORD 22-3 ATS for 88%
THIS WEEK'S PLAY = TULANE plus the points over Mississippi State
